Escape Plan

As a prison-break film, it lacks the nail-biting tension of Escape From Alcatraz and the emotional uplift of The Shawshank Redemption but provides moderate thrills and action that we expect from the genre

Sylvester Stallone is Ray Breslin, a security expert who specializes in prison security. He gets himself arrested and goes to jail, where he observes the place’s weaknesses and reports its security flaws. Jessica Miller, a mysterious CIA agent approaches his firm with the offer of testing out a prototype prison which she claims the governments of the world have built to hold hardcore criminals. She refuses to even reveal its location to Breslin but, relishing the prospect of the challenge, he agrees. He is literally abducted into the place and there he discovers that it is far more secure than he could have imagined with a sinister warden (Caviezel). His only hope in getting out is Emil Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger), a fellow prisoner who voluntarily comes forward to help him but can he trust the guy? As a prison-break film, Escape Plan lacks the nail-biting tension of Escape From Alcatraz and the emotional uplift of The Shawshank Redemption but provides moderate thrills and action that we expect from the genre. There’s one startling moment when Breslin finds out where the prison is actually located but the Stallone-Arnie scenes needed even more chutzpah.
