Her is a unique existential drama that explores what it means to fall in love and what it means to be alive

Theodore Twombly, who spends his day writing heartfelt letters, has just found love again after his childhood sweetheart and wife Catherine had broken up with him. His new love Samantha is funny, intelligent, sexy and super cool. And, she loves him even more. So, where’s the catch? Samantha is an operating system! This is the quirky set-up of Spike Jonze’s latest film (awarded the Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars this year), which is set in a recognizable future when everyone spends most of their time talking to their digital devices. Theodore knows that he is in love with Samantha but cannot help but question if it. Is it love, if your lover is formless and can be in relationship with thousands of other people at the same time? Beautifully shot with heartfelt performances (Joaquin Phoenix even better his astounding performance in The Master while Scarlett Johansson makes Samantha very real with her terrific voice work), Her is a unique existential drama that explores what it means to fall in love and what it means to be alive.
